Premendra Mazumder

Premendra Mazumder is a multifaceted figure in the world of cinema, known as a film critic, author, curator, film society activist, and festival organizer. With extensive experience, he has actively participated in round-table discussions, conducted workshops, delivered lectures, and presented papers at various national and international conferences.

In his capacity as a playwright and writer he authored five major plays, an anthology of short stories, two collections of essays. Holding various prestigious positions, he serves as the Vice President of the Federation of Film Societies of India; General Secretary of FIPRESCI-India, and Secretary of Asia Pacific section of the International Federation of Film Societies, among others.

Premendra has inaugurated various film societies and been a chief guest at important film meets over the last decade. He initiated the South Asian Short Film Festival in 2018, World Film Festival Kolkata in 2022 and International Sports Film Festival of India in 2023. He is working as advisor to many international film festivals in home & abroad and works for several festivals as chairman/ program director/ festival coordinator. So far he has served as the jury member in about forty international film festivals worldwide. 

A prolific writer, his thoughts on cinema have been published in esteemed Indian film magazines, daily newspapers, and film journals, as well as international publications. He has contributed to Dictionnaire du cinéma asiatique and served as the editor for 'The Poet of Celluloid' on the life and works of filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Additionally, he holds executive/editorial roles in publications like 'Indian Film Culture.' Since 2019 he is editing a quarterly film journal "E-CineIndia" regularly.

With a wealth of experience and contributions to the cinematic landscape, Premendra Mazumder continues to be a key figure in shaping the discourse and fostering the appreciation of cinema globally.
